Syphilis at a Glance
About This Course
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease cause by the Gram negative bacteria Treponema pallidum. The disease can also be transmitted through blood and through the placenta to the fetus of pregnant women. If left untreated the disease can be unknowingly spread to others, since often times the infected person may not be aware they have the disease.
In this presentation Nicole explains the different stages of syphilis and the methods of treponema and non-treponema tests used to determine whether an individual may have the disease.
Nicole Naudé, MS, MLS(ASCP)cm is a medical laboratory scientist living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
